Blaine Math Olympiad 2015

Washington State Math Championship
March 28, 2015

Practice problems are available at:

ConocoPhillips and Blaine School District will be hosting the
Washington State Math Championship in Blaine on Saturday,
March 28, 2015.  The contest is open to teams in grades 5-8.

RULES:
The Math Championship is open to public and private schools.  A team consists of
four students from the same grade, from the same school.  If necessary, a student
from a lower grade may be moved up (i.e. a 5th grader may be on a 6th grade team),
but no older students may compete on a younger team.

Each team will take all five team-type tests for their grade level, submitting one
answer sheet.  A sixth test will be an individual test consisting of 30 problems.  The
first 10 questions of the individual test will be used toward the team test results.  The
top 3 scores will be counted.  Students will compete against students in their own
grade level.

FEES AND REGISTRATION:
The cost of registration is $45.00 per team ($11.25 per student). This price includes juice and a snack).

T-SHIRTS:
T-Shirts are for sale for $10.00 and will be available during the day of the competition.

Deadline to register your child for a Shelton View team is December 17, 2014.

Practice problems are available at:

I strongly encourage practice for this event.  It is a long drive to Blaine, and the more prepared your child is the more they (and you) will enjoy the day.  Math Club covers the topics, but we only meet once every two weeks.  Home practice helps!

I would approach the topics in this order:

Individual
Geometry
Probability
Algebra
Mental Math

(Practice with Mental Math the last week or so is most effective.)
